7 Days.
One Film.
A Summer of Stories.
The 7 Day Student Film Competition is more than a filmmaking challenge. It’s an experience of a lifetime. Every July, The Bluejay Society for Film & Arts invites high school students and college freshman to compile a team and take on this challenge to test their filmmaking skills.
Inspired by the spirit of the 48 Hour Film Project, this initiative is designed to help nourish and grow the skills of young filmmakers all while keeping the spirit of competition alive. Our mission is to raise the next generation of filmmakers, connect everyone to a network of talent, and build a finished product. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress, connection, and the power of cinematic storytelling. By the time the week ends, you won’t just have a film. You’ll have experience, a network, and most importantly fun.
“Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up.”
― Christopher Nolan, Batman Begins
The 7 Day Experience
1. Make a movie in 7 days!
7 days sounds like a lot doesn’t it? In reality, it goes by fast. But unlike the 48 Hour Film Project, we understand you are still learning and want to give you the best chance at success and learning. If you can succeed at 7 days, 48 hours isn’t far off.
2. Put your filmmaking and creative skills to the test!
It might sound easy. However, once you are in it, the pressure is on. Use this chance to take on a mentor, build your skillset, and show the world what you’ve got and that you are open to learning more.
3. Don’t forget to have fun!
You will be with this team for an entire week. There will be stressful moments but this is your chance to just make mistakes. Learn. Most of all, enjoy the time you have with your friends, mentors and crew.
4. Be a part of a growing community!
Your team won’t be the only ones in the thick of it. You will be competing against several other teams. So don’t be afraid to connect and become friendly competition. Today you might be rivals. However, tomorrow, they just might be your next crew!
5. Showcase your work on the big screen!
That’s right! We aim to finish big. Up till now, chances are, you’ve only seen your work on a computer screen. However, you’ve spent 7 days working hard going against other teams for the top spot. It would be a disservice of us to not go big for all of your hard work.
